The Polaris Investment Competition is a 52-week program where MBA teams are allocated capital to invest in the stock market. At the end of the contest, participants are awarded scholarships depending on how they perform and where they finish in the competitive rankings. To receive an award teams must perform better than the Wilshire 5000 broad market index. The program is sponsored by Chuck Martin and operated by his investment management group at the hedge fund, Mont Pelerin Capital, LLC.
In the first nine years 104 scholarships have been awarded.
Five teams, including Fully Employed MBAs and Executive MBAs are now competing in this year’s contest.
“My objective with the program is to provide MBA students with an experience where they (a) learn how to evaluate businesses and (b) learn how to work effectively on small teams in a decision intensive environment.”
